The consequences of STRESS

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

It is not unusual for people to accept stress-related symptoms as a normal and common part of life. That is, until they reach a point of being overwhelmed and their mental and/or physical health is impacted.

This is similar to the old story of The Boiled Frog - a live frog was placed in a pot of water on the stove and then the heat was slowly turned up bit by tiny bit, so slowly in fact that the frog didn’t notice the heat increasing until he was cooked!

It is vital that we learn to recognise the early signals of too much stress and deal with them as soon as possible.

Regular relaxation treatments and time out for yourself help take the ‘pressure cooker’ out of your system.

Indications of stress are:

  • Not sleeping properly

  • Poor concentration

  • Mood changes & irritability (sorry PMS doesn’t count!)

  • Heart palpitations, chest pain

  • Excess drinking of caffine/alcohol and/or smoking more

Things that help:

  • Slow DEEP breathing

  • Meditation

  • A soothing hot bath

  • Listening to soothing music

  • Getting out in nature

  • Regular relaxation treatments

  • Seeking professional help if you are feeling overwhelmed

Ongoing chronic stress and anxiety play havoc with our body. If left to run amok, you could likely end up with a major health issue... I've been there, and so have many others. Don't let it happen to you!
